Helping others to help themselves

Recently I have been emailing back and forth with someone who is just starting out in online marketing. Like many others they are working hard to provide for their family and perhaps want to be able to do it from home.

Now this brings me to my time as a Peace Corps Volunteer where my main goal was to help others to help themselves.

I spent almost 2 years living in the South Pacific, The Solomon Islands to be specific where I taught at a bording school for both science and math. I also had some side projects where I helped finish a multi-purpose sports court as well as re-opening the library.

As this was somewhat different from the norm of teaching a teacher, I was teaching the youth of the country and spreading ideas that were not meant to change their customs, but to allow them to continue experiencing them for future generations.

A major example of this was in regards to the poaching of endangered leatherback turtle eggs. There were 300 plus students at a school that did not exist when these turtles had hatched some 30-40 years previous. With the current population removing eggs for their own tasty benefit, there was a high likelyhood that there would not be any more turtles coming to nest in the future.

So how the heck does this relate to working online? Well in one regards it is called the ripple effect. Where you change one thing and you might not see immediate improvements or large changes but over time, the small ripple turns into waves that have spread over great distances.

Online, making one post with valuable content can awaken someone to their potential and spark a new trend or allow them to overcome that hurdle that was keeping them back from converting their sales etc.

When I share my knowledge, I am helping others to help themselves. Providing a solution to peoples problems online gives me joy in many ways. If they continue to maintain a relationship with me and my site I am more the merrier. If they don’t have time and move onto their own thing, I wish them the best of luck.

The goal again is to be able to educate as many as possibly to the possibilities. Everyone has some knowledge or expertise that is hidden deep in their minds. Getting them to take action and revise later (TARL) is an important task here as many “think” about doing something, but never do.

Don’t just try something, do it! Have confidence that you can be successful and seek out help where it is needed. The internet is an amazing place where people are generally good and willing to help you out.

Please leave your comments on anything you might need help with to get you started! I will do my best to help you out.
