Marketers For A Cause

Last night I decided to take a second look at a link that was sent from a bunch of marketers in regards to a fundraiser benefit webinar for a young girl with bone cancer named Sophie.  I had first looked with my smartphone and was not able to get the full details as my phone was acting up and not loading pages quick enough.

I wanted to check it out again for two different reasons.  The first was to see of course what they were doing to raise funds, while the second was to see how I could help.  I have three small girls and know I would be at a loss of words if such a large group of marketers got together for a fundraiser.

Over 100 marketers donated their products and efforts to this cause.  Everything from WordPress plugins to Facebook apps, coaching videos and more was provided in a membership website to anyone willing to put up a donation of a mere $99.

I was fortunate enough to get back on the live training that they were providing for about 12 hours, when legendary marketer Matt Bacak was on.  I was fortunate enough to be on (and stay away enough) to be able to take advantage of donating and joining while he was on because he was also providing a major bonus with a physical product he has rights to with the Glazer-Kennedy group.

How could I pass this up.  A small donation of $99 to help a small girl with cancer and in return, thanks to all these great marketers, I now have in my hands what will turn out to be well over $20,000 in physical and digital products that will allow me to become a better marketer and person, as not all products were related to IM.

I was also able to see my IM buddy Laura Betterly, who I have taken a couse with and from in the past as she spoke about local media marketing!  There were others of course that I missed and the live facebook comment feeds were going to fast at times to keep up with them as over 300 guests were watching as well.

The goal of course as I build my business is to be able to give more back, just like these marketers are doing to.  Giving of their time and products to help others out may seem like a small gesture, but it carries a lot of weight with them.

These marketers are able to build their lists as well which is a bonus for them giving away products they normally charge anywhere from $47-thousands of dollars for.  Their goal as always is to help others and this is just what they are doing here and in their offerings.

So not only are hundreds of marketers helping out this small child, they are also helping to develop their community as well.  Internet marketing is often looked down upon, as though it is a scam or a scheme.  The truth though is that there are real people carrying out successful full time businesses online and helping many people meet their needs.

In the end, this little girl now has a better chance to beat her disease.  Her parents most likely would not have been able to afford the bills they are going to face and this is going to help them as 100% of the $99 was going to her cause.

Whether you were able to experience this and help out or help out in another way, you make a difference in others lives.  It is easy to make that difference a positive one, while negative ones can exist if you do not put a little thought into your efforts before hand.

Just like a small child, you need to handle your actions with care and it usually works out for you in the end.  Your goal to should to make more and give back more.  When you can provide that solution to someone’s problem, success will always be behind.

Starting a small business online

As we now are into 2012 and the thoughts of filing your taxes hangs over your head, you might be thinking about starting a small business online.  Just consider some of the following that can get you going this year:

  • Low start up cost
  • Endless amounts of support and help
  • Low overhead
  • It’s open 24hrs a day, 7 days a week
  • You don’t need a college degree to make it work (though sometimes it helps!)
  • You don’t have to limit yourself to what you sell

These are just a few reasons why almost anyone can take action and start a small business online.  So lets take a short look at each one individually and see how it fits in and makes sense to you.

  1. Low start up cost: Unlike a franchise (Subway, McDonald’s etc.) that may cost up to hundreds of thousands of dollars, your online business can cost you just a few dollars a month to a few thousand per year depending on how involved you want to go.
  2. Endless amounts of support and help: Think forums, blogs and training course.  You can learn a ton and not spend a dime in the forums and blogs.  You might need to spend quite a bit of time here and this is where a paid course can streamline your learning process.  People are willing to help.  All you need to do is post the question and you will be surprised how open and helpful people are online.
  3. Low overhead: You do not need to keep en endless supply of materials ready to ship in your basement and garage.  Many programs will automate and print on demand.  Keeping your website running can cost you just a few dollars a month depending on the host provider you are using. 
  4. It’s open 24hrs a day, 7 days a week: The internet never goes off and when you are sleeping, people on the other side of the world are online looking for a product you might carry.  As long as you are set up right, you can make sales while you sleep.
  5. You don’t need a college degree to make it work (though sometimes it helps!): The more educated you are the better you can be equipped to be a leader online and expand your business.  I have seen some people online though who are successful who never made it through high school, though they have learned what they needed to learn, when they needed to learn it.
  6. You don’t have to limit yourself to what you sell: people will buy the strangest things.  You can put almost anything online today and it will sell if the price is right.  People love to have physical products, but even digital products are selling billions of dollars worth of content each and every year.  Just think how CD’s are being replaced by DVD’s and Books are being released by eBooks.

Even though this is a relatively short list, you can see that there is no reason for you to delay starting a small business online.  The investment can be small if you play it right.  You should always do yourself due diligence and research what it is you are doing before launching an expensive business to make sure you are doing what is right for you. 

If I have one suggestion at all, it would be to start small working with something you are passionate about.   It would not make sense to go out and do something you dread…kind of like going to that day to day job you might have now…

Supreme Marketing Confidence in 2012

As the first day of 2012 comes to a close with my favorite NY Giants minutes away from making the playoffs, I am excited with what the online marketing world has to offer me and millions of other entrepreneurs out there.

Now, do not take this to mean that turning your computer on will bring you financial success.  With everything there is going to be a learning curve involved.  Some will bust their humps and do what needs to be done to be successful, while others will sit on their tails and assume they are entitled to success and push blame on others for why they have not cracked the code yet.

It is with me busting my A$$ on the computer all hours of the night, that I have Supreme Marketing Confidence in 2012.  I have put in the hours.  I have read the pdf’s and listened to the audios.  I have joined the forums and listened to the guru’s.  And this has resulted in improved results in my blog views, ppc (pay per click) rates and affiliate commissions.

My goal is to not brag here, but but let you know that you do not need to re-create the wheel.  You do not need to make up your own formula (though I did just come up with a good one ha, ha, ha that you can see here) when you can use someone else’s that is tried and tested.

I do not want to put over the idea that I am a guru, though to someone just starting online, I might as well be as I have 3 years more experience than they do right now.  I do not consider myself a guru in any sense of the meaning online.  This is reserved more for the likes of Mike Dillard, Daegan Smith, Mike Filaime and many others.

It is with all the knowledge, tricks, tips and techniques that I have gained from these marketers that I have supreme marketing confidence in 2012.  I know if I do “a”, then “b” will happen (for the most part, though we can never predict 100%).  I know that if I continue to blog, visit forums, help solve peoples issues, provide quality content, reviews and support, I know that I will continue to grow as a successful marketer.

When I first started, as expected, I did’t have the slightest idea how to format html in my blog and now I am selling products on it.  I did not know how to put a video on YouTube and now I embed it into my websites.  I did not know how to use an autoresponder and now I have a few set up on various sites delivering content.  I did not know how to add a signature into my posts and now I maximize where I suggest valuable resources or social media connections in most of my posts.  As you can see already, there was a lot that I did not know a few years ago and now I know a lot more than the average newbie.

I have “supreme marketing confidence in 2012” because:

  • I know I will make more affiliate commissions
  • I know I will extend my social networks
  • I know I will continue to provide more reviews and better bonuses for my readers
  • I know I will improve my other websites
  • I know I will continue to educate myself and learn to keep up with advances in marketing
  • I know I will continue to use the advice of others for my benefit
  • I know I will struggle at times bacause I have a grip on reality and know things are not always easy
  • I know I will build my downline in the companies I belong to
  • I know I will ask for help when I need it from others in the community
  • I know I will continue to bust my A$$ until the wee hours of the morning on some nights
  • I know I will have the right mindset to be successful

Membership Sites build great communities

If you have spent time online, most likely you belong to some sort of membership site.

Perhaps you entered your name into an opt-in box and joined to be able to participate in conversations and discussions with others interested in a similar topic.  It does not really matter what the niche is, there are membership sites out there that exist for them.

Just type in a keyword, followed by the word Forum or blog and you will get plenty to choose from.  Often they are membership sites. 

Sometimes these sites are free, while othertimes there may be a fee to belong.  With your fee, you most likely will be getting access to more content and materials than the general non-paying public.  These could be educational videos or tutorials, bonus DVD’s mailed to you each month, mp3’s and the likes.

The advantage is that you can give teaser content to anyone who sees the posts, but in order to see the whole thing and be able to participate, you need to upgrade your account.  Think of it as dues you pay to belong to the club.

There are many services out there and I personally have used Mike Filsaime’s Butterfly Marketing as well as Stu McLaren and Tracy Childers WishList Member.

The Butterfly Marketing is set up to be a complete website with affiliate options and the ability to have multiple membeship levels with protected content, while the Wishlist Member is meant to integrate into a WordPress Blog (it is a plugin).  As more people are running their content on blogs these days, this is crucial to have.

I highly endorse both of these and you can get Butterfly Marketing open source for nothing right now, though the Wishlist Member will run you about $97.  The main reasons are that the Butterfly site is not offering as much support anymore, unless you upgrade after picking up the open source software, while the Wishlist site is continuing to update and stick with the times and changes occuring online.

With almost 100 domain names to my account at GoDaddy, you could say I am somewhat addicted to using this domain seller.

If you are in any way looking to get yourself online, or if you have a business and do not have a website yet, I am not sure what you have been waiting for.  Perhaps this is just the sale for you to get yourself going.

Lets say you have a few domain names (websites) you would like to have.  I would highly suggest you get one with your name if possible and then another one with a product specific ring to it.  This way you can separate yourself from your business in case you decide to change niches, but your main site remains and continues to build.

I would also suggest trying to stick with the “.com” ending as these are recognized and remembered a lot easier.
